ISLAM

Islam is a religion that promotes peace, tolerance, and reconciliation. The Arabic word salaam translates to "peace" and is also considered a holy name of God. The Qur'an, the Muslim scripture, describes peace as a central concept, and the Islamic ethical system aims to uphold society's peace, safety, and happiness.

Here are some ways Islam promotes peace:

Social justice

Islam teaches that life is sacred and that Muslims have a duty to uphold justice and truth. Pursuing justice in the face of oppression and suffering is a collective duty of every Muslim.

Nonviolence

Islam advocates for nonviolent and peacebuilding values, and expects Muslims to live by them.

Reconciliation

Reconciliation involves personal healing, forgiveness, and acknowledging the merit of the other side's interpretation of events.

War

Islamic law aims to minimize harm and maximize benefit for society, and sacred laws restrain Muslim armies from taking advantage of an enemy during war. The Qur'an also states that wars should be ended as quickly as possible.
